Ageing is a process that we all undergo some of us embrace this stage of life and others feel a melancholy sense of time passed. Without a doubt life becomes more precious as time passes rapidly, families grow and each generation begins a cyclical path of life.

It occurs to me that much time is spent in life accumulating, for some it’s property for others it may be for retirement. Pension plans and future dreams of how life will pan out are a phenomena of modern life.

How often do you perceive your health as a precious asset that can be accumulated through making healthier choices? Or does the pursuit of wealth accumulation overshadow your well-being, leaving stress to reign supreme? Achieving a balance between life's pleasures and healthy pursuits can be challenging yet rewarding.

In today's society, chronic diseases have become synonymous with ageing, detracting from the joy of longevity. Perhaps you've witnessed first-hand the toll that lifestyle choices can take on loved ones as they age.

Contrary to the long-held belief that genetics determine our health destiny, recent research suggests otherwise. Studies indicate that genetics may play a modest role, with healthy lifestyle choices accounting for a significant portion of continued good health. The emerging field of epigenetics underscores the power of lifestyle in shaping our health outcomes, challenging the notion of predetermined health trajectories (Morris, Willcox and Donlon, 2019).

Coming more to fore are studies around ‘epigenetic diets’ that favourably influence the profile of individuals health include dietary consumption of certain foods and nutrients and in turn this consumption of health giving foods may benefit individuals; slowing the signs of age related decline and reducing the risk of degenerative diseases (Morris, Willcox and Donlon, 2019) offering a pathway to sustained vitality and well-being.

It's time to shift the narrative. Rather than focusing solely on potential health issues, let's explore the myriad of possibilities for enriching your quality of life through a nurturing approach.
